The EPP (SPED) assembly (including a 4X4 keypad) and the two (2) 1X4 screen
button keypads allow the user to in ter face with the terminal. The EPP assem-
bly is in a sealed module that accepts user key in puts for transaction requests,
and pro vides the Triple DES (Data Encryption Standard) se cu ri ty necessary to
pro tect im por tant user in for ma tion. The screen button keypads allow users to
respond to screen prompts.
There are two (2) types of EPP assemblies:
• VEPP: Visa approved Triton T1 EPP
• PCI: Payment Card Industry approved Sagem T5 EPP.
The Encrypting PIN Pad (EPP) is common between XScale and X2 environ-
ments.

The receipt printer is a 80 mm (print width) fi xed-head thermal printer that can
print at a resolution of 8 dots per mm and is graph ics ca pa ble. It consists of a
printer mechanism with an attached receipt paper autocutter, a presenter, the
printer controller PCB, the receipt paper chute, the low paper sensor/paper feed
switch PCB, and interface data cables between the printer controller and 1) the
low paper sensor/paper feed switch PCB and 2) the printer mechanism.
The 80 mm printer mechanism is common between XScale and X2 environ-
ments.

The receipt paper autocutter uses a slide blade (pre-confi gured for full cut) and
is attached to the printer mechanism. It can be replaced as an individual as-
sembly.

**IMPORTANT**
The PCI Sagem T5 EPP is required on all terminals shipped after
12/31/2007. A PCI Sagem T5 EPP must be replaced with a PCI Sa-
gem T5 EPP. An existing VEPP can be replaced with a VEPP, except at
MasterCard Acquirer accounts, which require the PCI Sagem T5 EPP.
On-going support of the VEPP will be limited to availability.
