Troubleshooting

Communication Symptoms

DSQ II Hardware Manual

Thermo Scientific

• The wrong type of ethernet cable is connected to the mass spectrometer. Use the supplied

10 Base-T Category 5 crossover cable. The length of the ethernet cable may be extended
by plugging a standard Category 5 cable in series with the supplied crossover cable.

• Ethernet card in the PC is not configured or is faulty. Check TCP/IP configuration

(compare to the settings in the

Readme.doc

file). Replace the card if necessary.

• Software is not configured correctly. Select the DSQ II from the Instrument

Configuration window and configure the software.

• System is in service mode. Check if green power LED on front cover is flashing; return

service switch to normal position if necessary.

•

Xcalibur

software has locked up. Use Task Manager to close HomePage, AcquServer,

QuadTune, and QuadInst. You can also reboot the computer.

Computer intermittently loses communication with DSQ II.

Possible Solutions

• Ethernet cable is loose or damaged. Inspect cable and replace if necessary.

• Communication circuits on the digital board are faulty. Check connections to digital

board. Replace if necessary.

Cannot download methods to DSQ II.

Possible Solutions

The software is not properly configured. Verify correct settings in Instrument Configuration.

Unable to start a GC temperature program even though all devices are ready. “NOT
RDY - Waiting for Inhibit RDY Signal” displays on the TRACE GC Ultra status menu.

Possible Solutions

1. Check the GC and/or autosampler remote start cables for loose or faulty connections.

• GC remote start cable (8-pin) connects to the GC (Generic/HS port) and DSQ II

(GC Start port).

• Autosampler remote start cable connects to the

GC (Autosampler port) and

autosampler controller (GC port). See the

TRACE GC Ultra Operating Manual

for

more information.

2. Configure the Inhibit Ready parameter on the TRACE GC Ultra.
