7.2.1 | The Monitoring Sound Pressure Level Display (SPL)
There are two different modes for displaying the monitoring
volume (Listening Level) in the 3-digit 7-segment display resp.
in the Status Box in window 4:
• SPL
absolute
Displays the set equivalent listening sound pressure level
in dB SPL(A). This is the sound pressure you would get if
you applied a noise signal with reference level to the input
(e. g. –18 dB FS RMS).
• SPL
relative
Displays the attenuation or gain relative to the reference
sound pressure level in dB. A display of 0 dB corresponds
to your preset reference sound pressure level.
The display mode is set with the function keys of the Monito-
ring Instrument, displayed in window 3. The selected display
mode (abs/rel) is shown as well.
Please proceed as follows to switch between absolute
and relative mode:
1. Press
the
INSTR
button on the right until window 3 gets
the white frame.
2. Press
the
MODE
button on the left to switch from
Func-
tion Select
mode to
Instrument Select
mode.
3. Press
button
7
labelled
MONITORING
. The Monitoring
instrument is displayed in window 3 and the Toolbar
switches to the
Function Select
mode for the Monitoring
Instrument.
4. Press
button
6
labelled
Listening Level
until your pre-
ferred option is selected: absolute (
abs
) or relative (
rel
).
The selected option is highlighted in the Toolbar and also
displayed in the Monitoring instrument.
5. Turn the volume control and adjust the listening level.
You can calibrate the connected monitoring system with
the SurroundControl’s integrated test signal generator and
SPL Meter. You will also need a calibration microphone
available as an optional accessory.
On the Remote Control 30050, the decimal point of the right-
most digit in the 7-segment display lights up showing that
SPL
relative
mode is active. With this decimal point off, the display
is in
SPL absolute
mode.
In
SPL relative
mode, both positive and negative values are
possible. The leftmost digit of the 7-segment display shows
„+“ or „-“ to indicate positive or negative values. Values greater
than ±9.9 dB are displayed with a resolution of 1 dB instead
of 1/10 dB steps for smaller values.
The SPL values are not only shown in the remote‘s numerical
display, but also in the status box and in the Monitoring instru-
ment in window 3. Absolute values are shown as SPL ... dB(A)
whil relative values will be shown as SPL ... dB.
