50-pin Centronics-type SCSI Connector
This common SCSI connector is the largest type of SCSI connector. See Figure 6-6
on page 140 for a comparison of the different types of SCSI connectors. See
“Category 5 Cable” on page 162.
Add-on Card
An electronic circuit card added to a slot in your computer that adds functionality to
your computer. Add-on cards typically provide an Ethernet, video, or modem
interface on the back of your computer.
AppleTalk
AppleTalk (also known as LocalTalk) is Apple Computer’s standard networking
system that is built into every Macintosh computer. AppleTalk is a relatively slow
interface that uses the printer port on the back of Macintosh computers. See
Figure 1-6 on page 9 for a comparison of the different types of connectors.
ASCII Encoding
ASCII encoding sends information to the Colorscript 310/330 printer in a slower,
but more compatible format than binary encoding. Some print servers, and some
cross-platform printing environments require ASCII encoding.
ASPI
The Association of SCSI Peripheral Interface (ASPI) is a common SCSI interface
standard that many SCSI adapters and SCSI devices meet. Your SCSI adapter or
SCSI device documentation will indicate whether or not your hardware is ASPI-
compliant.
Binary Encoding
Binary encoding is the standard format for sending information to the Colorscript
310/330 printer. Use binary encoding to print unless you have special print server
or cross-platform printing requirements.
Category 5 Cable
See “10Base-T Cable” on page 161.
Centronics-type SCSI Connector
Although Centronics is a cable manufacturer, the Centronics name is used as an
industry-standard term for a particular type of connector. See Figure 6-6 on
page 140 for a comparison of the different types of SCSI connectors. See also “50-
pin Centronics-type SCSI Connector” on page 162.
