portions of the tail cone extend over the
edges fuse TE (but under the fuselage
aft side skins).
Tail Cone Assembly
1. Mark cut lines on the tail cone, one at
its centerline (look for the scribe line)
and the other line should be drawn at a
height of 1 1/8” with the tail cone flat
against the table. Mark this line all the
way around the tail cone.
Below is a useful tool that can be made
to mark a line at a consistent height.
The height is adjustable and the block
accommodates a pen.
2. Trim the tail cone along these lines.
Some finish trimming and sanding will
be done later so the cut lines need not
be perfect. Trim off the ends at the
scribe lines – again the cuts need not be
perfect.
3. To make some initial cuts to the tail
cone, first tape the two halves together
matching the centerlines as close as
possible. For future reference, the
bottom of the tail cone is more flat
compared to the rounded top.
Don’t worry if the ends don’t match
exactly - just try to have the centerlines
contact each other without overlapping.
