4. To properly align the tail cone, you
will need the fuselage aft bottom skin.
Below, the aft edges of the ventral fins
are highlighted. Draw a line 4” in front
of the point where these ventral lines
meet. This line will align with the fin
post (as seen from the bottom of the
fuse). You will not be trimming the aft
bottom skin for this fitting purpose.
5. Attach the fuse TE to the fuse.
Use double sided tape to temporarily
hold the aft bottom skin in position –
make sure to center the skin on the fuse
and align the line with the fin post.
6. Slip the tail cone over the fuse TE –
do not worry about inserting the tail
cone under the top skin of the TE at this
time. Push the tail cone over the TE as
far as it will go.
Look at the tail cone from the side and
make sure its bottom edge is resting
against the top of the aft bottom skin
(also make sure the aft bottom skin is
firmly held against the fuse bottom.
Check that the tail cone’s centerline is
roughly in line with the fuse centerline.
Mark a line all the way around the tail
cone ½” forward from the TE of the fuse
TE. Remove the tail cone and trim
along this line
7. Reposition the tail cone and draw a
line on the sides of the fuse TE where
the tail cone’s forward edge is located.
8. Remove the tail cone so that you can
install the stabilizers, elevators and
control arm. Position the tail cone
against the control arm and mark areas
that will need to be trimmed so the tail
cone can be pushed past the control
arm.
