previously cut portion of the rudder for
demonstration.
13. Use CA to attach the ply to the
bottom of the rudder. Align the ply in
the middle of the rudder while its LE
matches the rudders LE.
14. Glue together two hardwood blocks
to form a block ¾”x1”x1”. Trace the
rudder’s LE radius onto the block and
sand to that shape. Epoxy the block
onto the ply plate and use tape to
secure it while it cures.
15. Once cured, drill four 3/32” holes
through the hardwood block and through
the ply plate as shown. Apply thin CA
into each of the holes then insert a
round toothpick deep enough to pass
through the ply plate. Cut off the
toothpicks flush with the rudder’s
bottom.
16. Cut off 1” from the LE of the portion
of the rudder you trimmed previously
and use CA to attach this portion to the
rudder as shown.
Draw a line even with the bottom of the
hardwood block and trim along this line.
This lower edge of the rudder is not
necessarily the lower extent of the
rudder as the rudder skin (applied later)
will determine the rudder’s edge (it will
extend slightly beyond the foam).
