When the rod is inserted into the rudder
confirm that the torque rod is in
alignment with the rudder’s LE.
11. Peal back the protective film in
preparation for gluing the rudder’s LE
skin. The rudder’s side skins will need
to be glued down against the balsa LE
first. Use CA with an application tip and
hold the skins edge down with a straight
edge as the CA cures.
12. Rough trim the rudder’s LE skin as
shown below and remove the side skins’
film.
13. Tape the LE skin so that it is firmly
against the balsa LE. The top of the LE
should be slightly above the top of the
balsa LE and should be plenty of excess
at the bottom.
14. As seen in the full-size rudder
picture, the LE skin terminates just in
front of the corrugations. Draw a line
denoting this edge. Also note where the
edge flairs near the bottom (if desired).
15. Remove the LE skin and cut along
the trim lines. Leave the bottom excess
for now – you can trim it after the LE is
glued on.
