To ensure the wings meet each other
firmly at the centerline, use a clamp with
thin ply inserts (to avoid denting the
wheel well area) to squeeze the wing
halves together as shown above. Level
the fuse/wing.
2. During the cure you will need to use
some clamps as shown below to ensure
the spar sleeves meet with the wing at
the bottom of the spar slot.
Test fit your clamps prior to gluing – use
some scrap 1/8” ply between the clamp
and the upper side of the wing to avoid
denting.
You can support the weight of the
clamps with support blocks as shown –
do not leave the clamps unsupported
during the cure.
We recommend that you use an
expanding polyurethane glue (Gorilla
Glue, for example) to glue the sleeve to
the wing. This will allow the glue to fill
any small gaps in the spar slot. It can
be hard to predict the amount of glue
expansion so it makes sense to keep
the glue away from the centerline (you
can insert glue there after the initial
cure. We put a little tape along the spar
sleeve joint to make sure no glue seeps
in. You will be applying glue at the
bottom of the spar slot and on the sides
of the sleeves. There are portions of the
rear facing sleeves that should not have
glue applied (the wheel well area) on the
sleeves so mark your glue locations
accordingly.
3. Apply expanding polyurethane glue
along the bottom of the spar slot –
keeping it away from the centerline joint.
Spread polyurethane glue along the
front and back sides of the sleeves
where appropriate.
