If the stab does not fit flush against the
skin, as shown above, sand the stab
until it does, especially the TE as shown
below.
3. The top stab skin has a large and
small circular hatch detail, the bottom
does not. The top skins are molded as
one piece so to separate them, draw a
line 1/8” aft of the rearmost rivet line on
each skin. Note that there is excess
material between the two top skins.
To trim these skins (and any other skins
that require a long, straight cut) we
highly recommend that you use a sharp
X-acto blade and a straight edge AND
that you tape down the skin and straight
edge to the table.
This may take longer than cutting with
scissors, but the results are better. If
you don’t tape down the straight edge it
could easily move while you’re cutting
as the plastic is a slippery surface.
4. Once the two top skins are separated
you can use scissors to trim back the
skins’ LE. To do this, first lay the skin
on its corresponding stab. Position it
with the last row of rivets on the stab’s
wood TE. To help position the skins,
you can highlight the last row of rivets
(we use a sharpie to dot some of the
rivets). Draw a line on the skin ¼” aft of
the stab’s LE. You can use scissors on
this cut as this edge of the skin will be
overlapped with the stab’s LE skin.
5. Trim the tip end of the top skin close
to the stab’s tip as shown below. Note
the rivet column perpendicular to the aft
row of rivets close to the tip. Just leave
the root end as is for now.
6. To separate the stabs’ bottom skins
draw a line centered between each
skins’ last row of rivets. Unlike the top
skins, there will be no excess material
between the skins after the cut. Again,
tape down the skins and the straight
