8. Draw cut lines along the bottom edge
and TE as shown above, then trim.
The top edge of the aft skin will be
overlapped by the turtle deck so it can
remain as is, just make sure that its
edge lays flat against the fuse. Drawing
alignment lines at the edges will help
you to align the skin later when gluing.
9. Remove the film from the underside
of the aft skin and peel back the last few
inches of film from the side skin where
the aft side skin will overlap it. Rough
up the mating surfaces of the various
skins at the aft skin’s LE and bottom.
Apply adhesive as shown. Note that
there is no adhesive applied to the fuse
TE as the aft skin over the fuse TE will
be secured with a screw. Spread
adhesive evenly (do not apply adhesive
to the adjacent skins).
10. Position the aft side skin in place
aligning it with the tick marks. Rub
down and let cure. Apply CA along the
LE and bottom edges.
Right Side Skin and Aft Skin:
The procedure for the right side skin is
the same as you did on the left.
However, some of the positioning
references are different. In the photos
below, note how the two small hatches
on the right side fall partially below the
wing saddle. Both the front and back
small hatches are about 3/16” below the
wing saddle.
1. In the photo above, notice how the
lower edge of the full-size battery box
(highlighted line and latches) aligns with
the top/bottom cowl mate line. Note
where the scale, external power jack
(oval with line through it) is located to
help position the side skin fore and aft.
