5.1. Connecting APX RS to a PC
This section discusses the interfacing features of the APXRS. All functions of the
APXRS camera can be controlled from a PC using a digital interface. An interface of
your choice will be factory-installed at the time of shipping from Photron.
See the PFV (Photron FASTCAM Viewer) manual for operation of the APXRS software.
5.1.1. APX RS. with IEEE1394 Interface
To connect your APX RS camera to a PC via the IEEE1394 interface, use the provided
IEEE1394 compatible cable that has a special connector connecting to the APX RS
camera. The IEEE1394 interface on the APX RS camera is hot-pluggable as is the
case with most peripheral devices for PC’s.
Install the driver software in the PC to set it up after connecting the APX RS camera to it
with the special IEEE1394 cable. For instructions for installation of and checking the
driver software, refer to the “IEEE1394 Interface Driver Installtion” subsection (2.3.1.) of
the FASTCAM Control Software Operation Manual.
5.1.2. Connection by Optical Interface
Installing a Photron optical interface board in a PC and connecting an APX RS. camera
processor to the PC using an optical cable, the camera can be controlled by the
attached FASTCAM Control Software.
