PRISMAsync Print Server RIP (raster image processor)
PRISMAsync Print Server is the heart of the VarioPrint i-series. It steers the performance, the
raster image process of the print files, and the colour management. PRISMAsync Print Server
offers a seamless workflow integration for both transactional based and document based print
environments. This topic describes the RIP (raster image processor) and the page description
languages of PRISMAsync Print Server.
Page description languages
PRISMAsync Print Server offers two printing modes: transaction printing mode and document
printing mode.
Below you find the print description languages and the RIP of both printing modes and variable
data printing.

Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) uses a native PDF imaging model which ensures a very high RIP
performance in combination with optimal image quality.
SRA module for transaction printing applications
The SRA (Scalable Raster Architecture) module is the IPDS implementation of PRISMAsync Print
Server. It creates a connection between the front-end applications and the printer. Transaction
print jobs can be submitted via PRISMAproduction.
Other front-end solutions, such as IBM mainframes, InfoPrint Manager, GMC PrintNet, PrintSoft
PreS, and Sefas, can be connected with PRISMAproduction. When the IPDS stream contains PDF
data, the SRA module handles two separate data routes. The PDF data are processed via the
Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE).
PDF RIP
PRISMAsync Print Server handles the incoming PDF jobs. The PDF pre-ripping process makes it
possible to have job information available immediately after the reception of the job. Operators
