Automatic air conditioning
General notes
The automatic air conditioning is only oper-
ational when the engine is running. Opti-
mum operation is only achieved when you
are driving with the windows and sliding/
tilting sunroof closed.
i
If the air distribution is controlled automati-
cally, you can adjust the temperature, footwell
temperature and airflow. It is best to start with
the following basic setting:
Set the air distribution to automatic control
( page 338)
Temperature: 22 °C ( page 338)
Footwell temperature: 0 ( page 213)
Airflow: medium ( page 213)
In automatic mode, the automatic air con-
ditioning cools or heats the vehicle interior
depending on the:
selected temperature
outside temperature
sunlight
The integrated combination filter largely fil-
ters out particles of dust and completely
filters out pollen.
i
The interval for replacing the filter depends
on environmental influences such as heavy air
pollution. The interval may be shorter than that
indicated in the Service Booklet. A damaged fil-
ter reduces the amount of air supplied to the ve-
hicle interior.
Ventilate the vehicle for a brief period dur-
ing warm weather, e.g. using the summer
opening feature ( page 351). This helps
you to achieve the desired interior temper-
ature more quickly.

Risk of accident
Follow the settings recommended on the
following pages for heating or cooling. The
windows could otherwise mist up. This may
prevent you from observing the traffic condi-
tions, thereby causing an accident.

air conditioning on and off
G
Risk of accident
When the automatic air conditioning is
switched off, air supply and air circulation
are also switched off. Only select this set-
ting briefly when the sliding/tilting sunroof
is closed. The windows could otherwise mist
up. This may prevent you from observing the
traffic conditions, thereby causing an acci-
dent.
