When you deactivate ESP
®
:
ESP
®
no longer improves driving stabil-
ity
the engine’s torque is then no longer
limited and the drive wheels could spin.
This results in a cutting action of the
spinning wheels for better grip.
traction control is still activated
you can still brake with support from
ESP
®
i
If ESP
®
is deactivated and one or more of
the wheels are spinning, the
v
warning lamp
in the instrument cluster flashes
.
ESP
®
does not
then stabilise the vehicle.

The
v
warning lamp in the instru-
ment cluster comes on when ESP is de-
activated.
EBV monitors and controls the brake pres-
sure at the rear wheels to improve driving
stability when braking.
ADAPTIVE BRAKE improves braking safety
and enhances braking comfort. In addition
to the braking function, ADAPTIVE BRAKE
also offers the HOLD convenience function
( page 311).
G
Risk of accident
Activate ESP
®
as soon as the situations de-
scribed above no longer apply. ESP
®
will
otherwise not be able to stabilise the vehicle
if the vehicle starts to skid or when a wheel
is spinning.
G
Risk of accident
If the
v
warning lamp in the instrument
cluster lights up continuously when the
engine is running, ESP
®
has been deactivat-
ed or is unavailable due to a malfunction.
The risk of your vehicle skidding is then in-
creased in certain situations.
Always adapt your driving style to suit the
prevailing road and weather conditions.

EBV (electronic brake-power
distribution)
G
Risk of accident
If EBV is faulty, the braking system remains
available with full brake boosting effect.
However, the wheels could lock, for in-
stance, in the event of a full brake applica-
tion. You could lose control of the vehicle
and cause an accident. Adapt your driving
style to the change in handling characteris-
tics.
