warning lamp next
to the instrument cluster is not lit
( page 42)
This means that a child restraint sys-
tem with automatic child seat recogni-
tion is either not fitted or is fitted
incorrectly.
!
Do not place any heavy objects on the front-
passenger seat. The system might erroneously
interpret this as a person occupying the seat and
the restraint systems on the front-passenger
seat might be triggered in the event of an acci-
dent and would then have to be replaced.
Sidebags
G
Risk of injury
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you use seat covers that have
been tested for use in Mercedes-Benz vehi-
cles and that have a special tear seam for
sidebags. Otherwise, a sidebag may not de-
ploy correctly and could fail to provide the
intended protection in the event of an acci-
dent. You can obtain these covers from a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre, for exam-
ple.
G
Risk of injury
To reduce the risk of injury when a sidebag
is deployed, make sure that:
there are no other persons, animals or
objects between the vehicle occupants
and the deployment range of the side-
bags
no accessories, e.g. drinks can holders,
are attached to the doors
only light clothing is hung on the coat
hooks in the vehicle
there are no heavy or sharp objects in
the pockets of the clothing on the coat
hooks
G
Risk of injury
Observe the following notes to reduce the
risk of serious or fatal injury if a sidebag is
deployed:
Vehicle occupants – in particular, chil-
dren – must not lean their head on the
area of the window in which a sidebag is
deployed.
Vehicle occupants must always wear
their seat belt correctly and position
their backrest as close to the vertical as
possible.
Always secure children less than 1.50 m
tall or under 12 years of age in suitable
child restraint systems.
G
Risk of injury
The sensors for controlling the airbags are
located in the doors. Do not make any
changes to the doors or door trim, such as
the retrofitting of loudspeakers. If the doors
are damaged, the function of the sidebags
may be impaired. Have work carried out on
the doors only at a qualified specialist work-
shop which has the necessary specialist
knowledge and tools to carry out the work
required. Mercedes-Benz recommends that
you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for
this purpose. In particular, work relevant to
safety or on safety-related systems must be
carried out at a qualified specialist work-
shop.
