Engaging reverse gear R
Push the selector lever up beyond the
first point of resistance.
Engaging drive position D
Push the selector lever down beyond
the first point of resistance.
Engaging park position P
Press the button on the selector lever
in the direction of arrow

If you depress the brake pedal and push
the selector lever up or down, you will cancel the
park position.
If you wish to shift directly from the park position
into reverse gear, depress the brake pedal and
push the selector lever up beyond the first point
of resistance.
If you wish to shift directly from the park position
into the drive position, depress the brake pedal
and push the selector lever down beyond the
first point of resistance.

If the engine speed is too high, you cannot
shift the automatic transmission directly from
D
to
R
or from
R
to
D
or directly into
P
. The auto-
matic transmission could otherwise be dam-
aged.
Engaging park position P automatically
Park position
P
is engaged automatically if:
you switch off the engine using the key
and remove it, or if you switch off the
engine using the KEYLESS GO button*
and open the driver’s door
HOLD ( page 311) or Distronic Plus*
( page 300) brings your vehicle to a
halt and at least one of the following
conditions is fulfilled:
The engine is switched off.
The driver’s door is opened and the
seat belt is not inserted in the buck-
le.
In addition to park position
P
, the electric
parking brake is also engaged automatical-
ly.
The automatic transmission shifts into in-
dividual gears automatically. This automat-
ic gearshifting behaviour is determined by:
the selector lever position
