• Make sure that the power button on the server is working correctly:
Reseat the operator information panel cable. If the problem remains, replace the operator information
panel.
Server does not power off (shut down)
Complete the following steps until the problem is resolved:
1. Determine whether you are using an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) or a non-ACPI
operating system. If you are using a non-ACPI operating system, complete the following steps:
a. Press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete
.
b. Turn off the server by pressing the power button and holding it down for 5 seconds.
c. Restart the server.
d. If the server fails POST and the power button does not work, disconnect the power cord for one
minute; then, reconnect the power cord and restart the server.
2. If the problem remains or if you are using an ACPI-aware operating system, suspect the system board.
Processor problems
Use this information to solve problems related to the processor.

The server goes directly to the POST event viewer when it is turned on.
1. Check the light path diagnostics LEDs and the XCC event log, and resolve any errors that have
occurred.
2. Make sure that the server supports all the processors and that the processors match in speed and
cache size. You can view processor details from system setup. To determine if the processor is
supported for the server, see

3. (Trained technician only) Make sure that processor 1 is seated correctly
4. (Trained technician only) Reduce the system to the minimum two processor configuration, remove
processor 2, and restart the server.
5. Replace the following components one at a time, in the order shown, restarting the server each time:
a. (Trained technician only) Processors
b. (Trained technician only) System boards
Memory problems
Use this information to resolve issues related to memory.

• “Attempt to change to another DCPMM mode fails” on page 255
