Removing an adapter
Note: This section describes the removal of adapters in PCI slots 1 through 4 on
the system board. See “Removing a mini-PCI adapter” on page 106 for information
about removing a mini-PCI adapter from the mini-PCI connector on the system
board.
To remove an adapter, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and “Installation guidelines”
on page 73.
2. Turn off the computer and all attached devices; then, disconnect all external
cables and power cords.
3. Remove the side cover (see “Removing the side cover” on page 75).
4. Remove the hard disk drive bracket, if one is installed (see “Removing the
hard disk drive bracket” on page 95).
5. Locate the slot containing the adapter to be removed. See “System-board
option connectors” on page 6 for an illustration of the adapter slot locations.
6. Disconnect any cables to the adapter or any cables that impede access to the
adapter.
7. For full-length adapters, rotate the front adapter-retention bracket to the fully
open (unlocked) position (see Figure 20).
