Manual Load Procedure:
While repairing a drive, you may need to perform manual load of a tape
cartridge.
Refer to Figure 263 on page PROC-27 and Figure 264 on page PROC-27 when performing the following
procedure. The item numbers will refer to these figures. For ease of understanding, Figure 262 on
page PROC-26, a view of the front of the loader is also given. The large drive gear in the procedure is
item

in this view. For the tape cartridge manual load procedure, follow the steps below:
1. Power off the device if not done already.
Note: If testing the drive sensors, do not power off the device. Instead load a cartridge into the drive
by inserting a tape cartridge into the drive door slot with the device powered on. If the drive
does not load the cartridge continue with step 4 to manually load the cartridge.
2. Ensure that the drive is fully unloaded. See “Continue Manual Unload Procedure” on page PROC-24 if
the drive needs to be unloaded.
3. Slowly insert a tape cartridge completely into the drive door slot, but do not force the cartridge.
4. Rotate the first intermediate drive gear, item

, in a counter clockwise direction. This gear drives the
drive loader motor gear, item

. Rotate the gear in a counter clockwise direction until the tab, item
2
, moves out from between the two sensors on the sensor assembly, and the cartridge moves into
the drive.

Note: On some drives a metal shield prevents you from seeing the tab, item
2
, from the front of
|
the drive. You will be able to see the tab, item
2
, move if you look down from the top of the
|
drive.
When the file-protect and cartridge-type sensor, item
1
, moves to the left and comes into contact
with the tape cartridge, the cartridge is fully loaded.
