2. Perform removal of the “Library Chassis Covers” on page CARR-4 for library machines, or “Decorative

Cover—Drive-Only Models” on page CARR-5 for drive-only machines.

3. Perform removal of the “Drive Pack, Library Models” on page CARR-8 for library machines, or “Drive

Pack, Drive-Only Models” on page CARR-8 for drive-only machines.

4. Press down on the top center of the drive assembly front cover and tilt it forward and off the drive

assembly.

Note: Be sure to install the cover back on the drive pack before the call is completed. The cover is

required to get proper air flow to the drive logic card.

Replacement of Drive Assembly Front Cover

1. Perform the removal procedure in the reverse order.

ATTENTION

Be sure to insert the bottom of the bezel first before attempting to tilt the top of the bezel into its
proper latching position. Damage may occur to components on the drive logic card that are in
close proximity to the top of the bezel, if the top of the bezel is inserted first.

2. Return to the procedure that sent you here.

Drive Assembly Top Cover

Removal of Drive Assembly Top Cover: See Figure 289 on page CARR-15 for an exploded view of
the drive pack. To remove the drive assembly top cover

follow the steps below if not done before:

1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-6 and return here.

2. Perform removal of the “Library Chassis Covers” on page CARR-4 for library machines, or “Decorative

Cover—Drive-Only Models” on page CARR-5 for drive-only machines.

3. Perform removal of the “Drive Pack, Library Models” on page CARR-8 for library machines, or “Drive

Pack, Drive-Only Models” on page CARR-8 for drive-only machines.

4. Perform removal of the Drive Assembly Front Cover.

5. Remove the top cover extension.

6. Remove 2 top cover screws, 5 right side screws, and 2 left side screws that attach the top cover

to the drive pack. (Use a number 0 or 1 phillips screwdriver.)

7. Carefully lift cover clear of the drive unit

Replacement of Drive Assembly Top Cover

1. Perform the replacement procedure in the reverse order.

2. Return to the procedure that sent you here.

Note: If you are removing the drive logic card only to gain access to another FRU blocked by the drive

a new part, you should attempt to recover the microcode EC and link level of the drive logic card
with the following procedures.
