Verify Fix

You can run Verify Fix diagnostics on the device from the operator panel. See “Verify Fix—Drive-Only
Models” or “CE Verify Fix on Library Models” on page PROC-13.

You can also run the Verify Fix diagnostics from the host via the SCSI Send Diagnostic command with
results of the tests returned to the host via the SCSI Receive Diagnostic Results command.

Verify Fix—Drive-Only Models

Verify fix for drive-only models requires selection of the Write/Read functional diagnostic test. POST
(power-on self-test) diagnostics are automatically run when the drive is powered on. POST diagnostics are
also run automatically when the Write/Read functional test is selected. To run the Write/Read test:

1. While the drive unit is unloaded, press the Unload push button three times within a 1-second interval.

Pressing a push button outside of the 1-second limit is ignored to allow for inadvertent operation by an
operator. Pressing the Unload push button three times within one second causes selection of option 1,
where the Maintenance and Clean indicator LEDs start flashing. The Maintenance LED will continue to
flash while in CE Mode.

2. While the Maintenance LED flashes, and while in CE Mode, the other two LEDs represent the

meanings described in Figure 252.

1. Options 2, 4 and 6 require a scratch tape, and option 3 requires a FMR tape to be loaded.

1. To cycle through the options, press the Unload push button at one second intervals.

2. To select an option, press the Unload push button two times within a 1-second interval. The Busy and

Clean LEDs will then go off.

3. You may leave the CE Mode at any time by selecting Option 1, or by turning the drive power off, then

on.

4. When one of the options is selected that requires a tape cartridge to be loaded, the drive requests a

tape to be loaded by flashing the Clean LED. The microcode will wait at least 20 seconds for a
cartridge to be loaded. If a cartridge is not inserted within the 20+ second window, the test will fail with
the Maintenance LED on solid. Press the Unload push button to return to Operator Mode. Return to
CE Mode and select the option again.
