2. Position the rack in the area of the customer's location where it will be installed.
3. Locate the physical area in the rack (which EIA units the drive will occupy).
Note: Because of the weight of the 3570, it is recommended that the 3570 be installed as low as
possible in the rack. Never install the drive so that the top of the 3570 is higher than EIA
unit 28 in the Netfinity Rack (9306900). There are no height restrictions in the NetBAY22
(9306200) rack.
The 3570 requires six EIA units on each side. Each EIA unit consists of three holes in the rack.
The supporting slides must be installed level in the rack. Figure 222 on page INST-36 and
Figure 223 on page INST-37 show the locations of the holes used.
4. It is necessary to remove the front door of the Netfinity rack to install the slide assemblies. This is
done by removing the hinge pins that hold the door to the frame.
Caution
Removal of the Netfinity rack door requires two people. One to hold the door while the other
removes the hinge pins. It is suggested that you remove the top hinge pin last.
Installing Supporting Slides and Tray in Rack
When installing the library models in a rack, six EIA rack units must be available. Make a copy of the
template Figure 221 on page INST-33. Use this template to assist you in the following steps.
1. Determine which rack location the 3570 will be installed in. Count and mark the six EIA units on
the left and right sides of the front and the rear of the rack.
2. Refer to Figure 222 on page INST-36 and install the four M6 caged nuts
1
, P/N 12J5288 and
four M6 X 12 socket button head screws,
2
, P/N 1621950, in the bottom EIA units on the left
side, as shown. Leave the screws loose enough to insert the slide mounting brackets
3
between
the screw heads and the EIA strips.
3. Read the notes below before continuing.
Notes:
a. Ensure that the slide is oriented so that when the inner slide is extended out, it extends toward
the front of the rack.
b. You will need an adjustable wrench to loosen the nuts holding the rear slide bracket to adjust
it to the width of the EIA units. The bracket fingers must go outside the EIA strips (the opposite
side of where the captive nuts are installed) for both the front and rear mounting points.
c. Do all of the adjustment with the rear mounting bracket. DO NOT loosen the front mounting
bracket screws.
4. Next, fit the left-hand slide assembly
4
as shown inFigure 222 on page INST-36 . Ensure that
the front and rear brackets
3
are flush to the EIA strips
5
on the opposite sides of where the
captured nuts
1
are installed. Tighten the nuts that hold the rear slide bracket.
5. Remove the left-hand slide assembly
4
and use that assembly to measure and adjust the
right-hand slide assembly that is attached to the tray assembly.
