c. Select Microcode Level from the Services menu and press Enter to display the EC level and link

code of the microcode on the new card.

d. Look at the latest EC level and link level written in “Microcode EC Level History Log” on

page PROC-47.

Note: The latest EC level is determined by the link level (LL), as the EC level may not always

increment to a higher number. The following example shows that the second entry is the
latest level microcode.

Compare the displayed EC level (new card) to latest written EC level and link level
previously installed. If they compare, go to step 13.

If they do not compare, continue with step 7.

7. Select Cancel to return to the CE Options menu.

8. Select Microcode Update from the FMR Tape menu and press Enter. (See “Updating Microcode

from FMR Cartridge (Library Models)” on page PROC-42 for details.)

9. After you load the FMR tape when prompted, the Select EC Level menu displays a series of EC

levels.

Note: If the card has an EC level that is not on the FMR tape, that level of microcode is automatically

written on the FMR tape and is also displayed.

If the level of microcode on the card was up-level from the FMR tape, record the new level in

“Microcode EC Level History Log” on page PROC-47, unload the tape then go to step 13.

If the level of microcode on the card was down-level from the FMR tape, continue with step 10 to

update the microcode on the card.

10. Find the EC level on the menu that matches the EC level written in “Microcode EC Level History Log”

on page PROC-47.

11. Select the EC level and link level from the menu that matches the written level and press Enter.

12. After the microcode is written into the card, unload the tape and perform a reset (see “Hardware

Reset” on page PROC-15) to activate the code.

13. Perform “End of Call” on page PROC-15.

14. Use your local procedures to report the FRU part number for the FID and use technical area code

(TAC) L01 for the area of failure.

15. Return to the procedure that sent you here.

Replacement of Drive Logic Card—Drive-Only Models

1. Perform the removal procedure in the reverse order, then return here.

2. After installing the new card, restore power to the 3570 Tape Subsystem.

3. If the power-on test completed successfully, go to step 4. Or, if the power-on test did not complete

successfully, repair as needed, then go to step 4.

4. Perform the “Verify Fix—Drive-Only Models” on page PROC-9 procedure, then return here.

5. Perform the “Updating Microcode from FMR Cartridge (Drive-Only Models)” on page PROC-46

procedure, then return here.
