3. Right side light source
a. Disconnect the cable at the light source.
b. Remove the two screws securing the light source to the right side chassis.
c. Remove the light source.
Replacement of Magazine Global Sensor Pair
1. Perform the removal procedure steps in the reverse order.
2. Position the sensor and light source over their respective alignment pins, then secure with screws.
3. If you removed plastic snap-on covers from the sensor and light source, re-install the covers.
Note: Be sure that the hole in the cover aligns with the sensor and the light source.
4. Prepare the drive for customer operation.
5. If this part is being replaced with a new part, use your local procedures to report the FRU part number
for the FID and use technical area code (TAC) T31 for the area of failure.
6. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
FID 9D: Library Front Cover Assembly
There are at least 3 styles of hinges and 2 styles of library front cover assemblies. Removal and
replacement is different on each one. Study the drawings at Figure 304 on page CARR-45, Figure 305
on page CARR-46 and Figure 306 on page CARR-46, and decide which style front cover assembly is on
the problem machine. Here's how you can tell.
Oldest style
Look behind the removable operator panel, item
2
on Figure 304 on page CARR-45.
Remove the library operator panel display assembly by pushing down and tilting out from
the top. If there is no access hole to a screw behind the library operator panel display,
you have the old style front cover assembly. Follow the procedure at “Removal of Library
Front Cover Assembly (Old Style)” on page CARR-47.
Newer style
Look at Figure 305 on page CARR-46 and if your hinges match that type, you have a
newer style. Follow the procedure at “Removal of Library Front Cover Assembly (Newer
Style)” but watch for notes concerning hinge removal unique to this style.
Newest style
Look at Figure 306 on page CARR-46 and if your hinges matche that type, you have the
newest style. Follow the procedure at “Removal of Library Front Cover Assembly (Newer
Style)” but watch for notes concerning hinge removal unique to this style.
Removal of Library Front Cover Assembly (Newer Style)
1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-6.
2. Refer to Figure 304 on page CARR-45 and remove the library operator panel display assembly, item
2
, by pushing down and tilting out from the top.
3. Disconnect the library operator panel display cable from the library operator panel display.
4. Set the library operator panel display and library operator panel display cable aside for now.
5. Remove any magazines that are installed.
Notes:
a. Read the rest of this procedure carefully before continuing. The Library front cover assembly has
many screws, but only six secure the front cover and two to four secure the hinges depending on
the style that your machine has. Pay close attention to the next few steps and it will save you
some time.
b. The front cover (plastic) and the metal mounting plate are separate parts, and the metal mounting
plate is not removed.
