Replacement of Drive Analog Card

ATTENTION

The head-actuator assembly and logic cards are ESD sensitive. Special care must be

used when handling ESD sensitive parts to be sure that no ESD damage occurs. See
“Working with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Parts” on page PROC-4 for details.

DO NOT USE ANY MAGNETIZED TOOLS ON OR NEAR THE HEAD ASSEMBLY (INCLUDING

THIN FILM CABLES) AS THEY WILL DESTROY THE HEAD!

See Figure 290. There should be a Head Cable Installation tool, P/N 08L6270, included with any FRU

that requires removal of the drive analog card.

Use Head Cable Installation tool, P/N 08L6270, to help with the installation of the thin-film cables onto

the locating pins of the rubber compression block. Also use this tool to hold the thin-film cables in
place while the drive analog card is being installed.

Note: If the Head Cable Installation tool is not available, a tool can be made from a piece of heavy

paper or light weight cardboard. See Figure 296 on page CARR-25 to make a tool, if
necessary.

on the ends of the thin-film cables are not

insulated. DO NOT touch these contacts because static discharge will damage the head-actuator
assembly, and fingerprints will cause short circuits or poor contact.

It is okay to touch the insulated portion of the thin-film cables, but DO NOT touch in the non-insulated
gold contact area
