Head-Actuator Cable Holding Tool Template

The following templates may be used by the service person to use as a pattern to cut out from moderately
thin cardboard (.040 to .060 inches) a tool that may be used to keep the head-actuator cables in place
when removing the drive analog card.

If you are replacing a FRU that requires removal of the drive analog card, a special head cable installation
tool, P/N 08L6270, will be packaged with the new FRU. If the special tool is available, use it instead of the
cardboard cutout to hold the head cables in place. See “Replacement of Drive Analog Card” on
page CARR-21 for detailed instructions.

FID D0: Head-Actuator Assembly

This procedure uses a 2.5 mm Allen Wrench.

Removal of Head-Actuator Assembly

ATTENTION

The head-actuator assembly and logic cards are ESD sensitive. Special care must be used

when handling ESD sensitive parts, such as the head-actuator assembly to be sure that no ESD
damage occurs to the head you are removing or the head you are replacing. See “Working with
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Parts” on page PROC-4 for details.

DO NOT USE ANY MAGNETIZED TOOLS ON OR NEAR THE HEAD ASSEMBLY (INCLUDING
THIN FILM CABLES). MAGNETIZED TOOLS WILL DAMAGE THE HEAD!

4. Perform removal of the “FID EA: Drive Logic Card” on page CARR-16.

5. Perform removal of the “FID EB: Drive Analog Card” on page CARR-20.
