4. Press the Scroll Down push button until the arrow head (
>
) points to the Verify Fix option. Select
Verify Fix from the CE Options menu, then select Test Drive from the CE Verify Fix menu.
5. The routine is executed in two parts:
All of the (POST) verification routines are executed. If no failures are detected, a message is
displayed on the library operator panel display with instructions to load a scratch cartridge by
placing it in the priority cell.
Load a scratch tape into the priority cell and select Load From PRI Slot on the Load Scratch
Tape Menu. When you load a scratch cartridge, all of the motion and write/read verification tests
are executed. Other panels and messages are displayed during execution of the Test library
option.
Improvements were made to the microcode (release 4_xxx or later) where it now takes only 3
minutes to complete all the tests that are executed as part of the 3570 Test Drive option.
The test may take longer if any read or write errors occur. Wait for the test to complete.
6. After the successful completion of the Write/Read functional tests, a menu is displayed which allows
the scratch cartridge to be unloaded. After all verification tests have completed successfully, the
display on the operator panel displays a menu showing CE Action Successful.
7. If testing more than one drive, repeat the previous steps for the second drive.
8. If the diagnostics fail without a FID displayed,
a. Select Unload drive.
b. Select Cancel.
c. Select Verify Fix.
d. When the request for scratch tape appears, try another tape cartridge. If the drive stills fails, go to
reported FID F0 in “FID Entry Point” on page START-12.
9. If additional library tests need to be run to verify the area that was failing, one or more scratch tapes
may be placed in any magazine cell, in Import position. If you power OFF the device, and power it
back ON, the library will load and read each cartridge that it finds in the Import position. If only one
scratch tape is available, move the tape to another slot in Import position, power OFF, then power ON.
This must be repeated for each magazine cell to be tested.
10. If an error occurs, a FID1, FID2, FID3 or FID4 message with a FID callout is displayed on the library
operator panel display. Go to “FID Entry Point” on page START-12 and use the displayed FID to
determine the repair actions.
Verify Fix from the Host
SCSI diagnostic commands initiated from the host perform special functions normally only available from
the operator panel of the 3570 library models. They are also used to execute 3570 fix-verification
diagnostics for all 3570 models. The ability to exercise/test the device is dependent upon the host that is
attached. Most can be configured to invoke any of the following Verify Fix tests:
POST tests
Write/read functional tests
Library tests
