Swap Drive 1 and Drive 2 or Logic Cards

When a CE needs to swap Drive 1 and Drive 2 (or their drive logic cards) on a Model B02, B12 or B22 for
failure isolation, the Model B02, B12 or B22 will not work as expected at microcode level I3_28F or earlier.
This problem will be corrected with drive microcode at a later level than I3_28F.

If you have drive microcode at or earlier than I3_28F, and you need to swap Drive 1 with Drive 2, (or their
logic cards) for failure isolation, do the following:

1. Power off the 3570 and disconnect the power cords.

2. Remove the top library cover to gain access to the drive packs.

3. Disconnect the 2-wire fan power cable from each cooling pack.

4. Disconnect the power cable from each drive pack.

5. Disconnect the RS422 cable and the internal SCSI cable from each drive pack and remove the cooling

packs from each drive. You can leave the SCSI cable(s) and terminator(s) connected to the cooling
packs for convenience.

6. Remove the drives (or drive logic cards) from the library and swap them when reinstalling. See

procedures in this section.

7. Reconnect the RS422 cable and the internal SCSI cable to each drive pack and reinstall the cooling

packs on each drive.

8. Reconnect the power cable to each drive and the 2-wire fan power cable to each cooling pack.

9. Reconnect the power cords and power on the 3570. Wait for the POR cycle to complete.

10. Change to CE Mode and select drive 2:

  a. Select UTILITIES

b. Select DISP/ALT VPD

c. Select FLASH GRP

d. Use the arrow buttons to scroll down to the SER DRIVE ID menu item and press ENTER. (You

will need to scroll down approximately 80 menu items to reach SER DRIVE ID.)

e. The display should show:

f. The “2” on the CE VPD DATA Menu, needs to be changed to “1”. Use the arrow button to select

the “2” and press ENTER.

g. Select “1” on the CE CHOOSE VALUE Menu and press ENTER.
h. Use the arrow to scroll to the SAVE AND CONT. menu item on the CE VPD DATA Menu and

press ENTER.

i. Select YES on the CE SAVE Menu.
j. Select CANCEL until you return to the CE OPTIONS Menu.

11. Power the 3570 off and back on. Wait approximately 2 minutes after the power-up cycle completes.

12. Power the 3570 off and back on once again. The 3570 should come up as Model B02.

13. Drive 1 and 2 (or the drive logic cards) are now swapped; continue with your work to isolate and repair

the failure.

Note:  If you are testing the drives from the host, you may need to change the SCSI Addresses. Refer to

the INSTALL section of the Maintenance Information for procedures to set the SCSI address.
