Removal of Drive Global Sensor Pair
Note: When replacing any part of the drive global sensor pair, replace both the sensor and the light
source at the same time. Be aware that the two parts look very much alike and will not work if
interchanged. Refer to Figure 302 and note that the sensor has a small component, item
1
,
soldered on the circuit board while the light source is missing this component. Also note from the
figure where the light sources, item
2
and sensors, item
3
are located in the library.
1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-6.
2. You may have to push the picker assembly out of the way to gain access to the sensor.
Note: On some libraries, there may be plastic snap-on covers installed on the global sensor and light
source. If so, pull the covers off to install them on the new sensor pair. See Figure 303 on
page CARR-41, item

.
Left side light source
a. Disconnect the light source cable at the light source.
b. Remove the two screws that secure the light source to the left side chassis,
c. Remove the light source.
Right side sensor
a. Disconnect the sensor cable at the sensor.
b. Remove the two screws that secure the sensor to the right side chassis.
c. Remove the sensor.
Replacement of Drive Global Sensor Pair
1. Perform the removal procedure steps in the reverse order.
2. Position the sensor and light source over their respective alignment pins, then secure with screws.
3. If you removed plastic snap-on covers from the sensor and light source, re-install the covers.
Note: Be sure that the hole in the cover aligns with the sensor and the light source.
4. Prepare the drive for customer operation.
5. If this part is being replaced with a new part, use your local procedures to report the FRU part number
for the FID and use technical area code (TAC) T31 for the area of failure.
6. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
FID 9C: Magazine Global Sensor Pair
Removal of Magazine Global Sensor Pair
Note: When replacing any part of the magazine global sensor pair, replace both the sensor and the light
source at the same time. Be aware that the two parts look very much alike and will not work if
interchanged. Refer to Figure 302 on page CARR-41 and note that the sensor has a small
component, item
1
, soldered on the circuit board while the light source is missing this
component. Also note from the figure where the light sources, item
2
and sensors, item
3
are
located in the library.
1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-6.
2. Remove the magazines if present.
Note: On some libraries, there may be plastic snap-on covers installed on the global sensor and light
source. If so, pull the covers off to install them on the new sensor pair. See Figure 303 on
page CARR-41, item

.
Left side sensor
a. Disconnect the cable from the sensor on the left side.
b. Remove the two screws securing the sensor to the left side chassis.
c. Remove the sensor.
