Removal and Replacement Procedures—Drive Pack

Notes:

1. Be sure you are working on a B-Series drive. B-Series drives have a blue UNLOAD button. If your

drive has a green UNLOAD button, refer to

2. When you are removing the drive pack to access parts inside the drive, you may want to complete

your testing prior to replacement of the drive pack, in case the FRU you replaced did not fix the
problem. You can feed cartridges in a drive-only device, without having all the covers back on, for
testing purposes, if you connect all the cables and place the drive on a flat surface. On library
models, you can also cause the library and drive to operate together, even though the drive is not
physically installed inside the library, if you follow the procedure outlined in “Short-cut Test
Procedure—Library Devices” on page PROC-16.

Drive Pack, Library Models

Removal of Drive Pack from Chassis:

To remove the physical drive follow the steps below:

1. “Prepare the Tape Device for Service” on page PROC-6 and then return here.

2. Perform removal of the “Library Chassis Covers” on page CARR-4.

3. Remove the rear cover from the library. The cover is attached using snap-in plastic retainers that

expand when pushed in, and compress when the internal plugs are pulled out.

4. Remove the 4 screws that hold the rear plate to the library frame and remove the plate.

5. Remove the following electrical connections from the drive:

a. The ac power cord to power supply

b. 4-wire power connection between the drive and power supply

c. 2-wire fan power connection between the drive and power supply

d. Ribbon cable CAC-P1 between the drive and library control card (library models only)

Note: To remove the cable connector from the drive and board connectors, depress the tension

clips on either side of the cable connectors.

e. SCSI cable(s)

f. SCSI terminator if installed

g. The RS-422 cable connecting drive 1 to drive 2 (Models B02 and B12 only)

6. Refer to Figure 283 on page CARR-7 for a view of the drive pack within a typical library model

environment.

7. Remove the two screws on either side of the drive pack

and remove the drive assembly from the

library chassis.

Replacement of Drive Pack into Library Chassis

1. Perform the removal procedure in the reverse order, then return here.

2. Return to the procedure that sent you here.
