Optimizing Measurements
Increasing Sweep Speed
To Turn Off Spur Avoidance
When spur avoidance is on (factory preset default is off), the analyzer
breaks each sweep into segments. Between sweep segments, the
analyzer stops and changes internal frequencies to ensure that
unwanted mixing products don’t affect the measurement. Since the
analyzer sweep is not interrupted when this feature is off, turn off spur
avoidance to increase sweep speed.
1. Press
and look at the
softkey.
2. If the
key is highlighted with a box around it, press the
key.
NOTE
If Spur Avoid must be used in your measurement, set the start frequency
as high as possible to obtain the fastest possible sweeps.
To Avoid Frequency Bandcrossings by
Minimizing the Span (HP 8714ES only)
Sweep time is increased when the analyzer encounters a bandcrossing
point. The frequency bandcrossing points are approximately:
• 1900 MHz
• 2310 MHz
• 2620 MHz
Press
and then change the start frequency, stop frequency, or
span to avoid sweeping through these bandcrossing points when
possible.
