Optimizing Measurements
Increasing Sweep Speed
Increasing Sweep Speed
You can increase the analyzer sweep speed (decrease sweep time) by
avoiding the use of some features that require computational time for
implementation and updating, such as bandwidth marker tracking.
You can also increase the sweep speed by making adjustments to the
measurement settings. Listed below are some of the things that can be
done to increase sweep speed.
• select the appropriate calibration type
• increase the start frequency
• set sweep time in AUTO mode
• widen the system bandwidth
• reduce the amount of averaging
• reduce the number of measurement points
• view a single measurement channel
• turn off alternate sweep
• turn off markers and marker tracking
• turn off spur avoidance
• minimize frequency span to avoid bandcrossings (HP 8714ES only)
Select the Appropriate Calibration Type
The two-port method of calibration is the most accurate form of error
correction for measuring two-port devices since it can account for all of
the major sources of systematic error. However, because it uses both a
forward and a reverse sweep when making a measurement, it increases
total cycle time. Therefore, if measurement speed is of more importance
than highest accuracy, you may want to use a different type of error
correction than the two-port calibration. See
information on calibration types.
