assem b ly in to J 2 4 6 0 8 -6 w ith o u t p o s itio n in g
an d rotating b ecause the n e e d le bearings o f the
ring sizer m ay d am ag e the e n d o f the piston.
• R otate the piston and ring assem b ly in J 2 4 6 0 8 -6
several turns until th e assem b ly rotates relatively
free in the ring sizer.
5. Piston (32) to J 24608-1 (figure 39).
• T h e piston (32) should pass through th e ring
g ag e with a two to eig ht pound force.
6. R e p e a t for th e opposite end of th e piston (32).
7. L ubricate both ends of th e piston (32) with 5 2 5
viscosity refrigerant oil before installing th e piston
into th e cylin der bore.

A ssem b le the cylinder assem b ly after perform ing the
“ G ag in g P ro c e d u re ,” choosing th e correct shoe discs
and thrust races and installing an y piston rings. Install
new seals supplied in the service kit.
Install or C onnect (Figures 1, 40 through 51)

Support the front half of th e cylin der (29) on J 9397.
S haft and axial p late (39).
• P lac e th e shaft, th re a d e d -e n d dow n, with the
front b earing race p ack (race and b earing ) into
the cylinder if this w as not d one at the end of
the “ G ag in g P ro c e d u re .”
Balls (34) and shoe discs (35 ) to the pistons (32).
• A pply a coat of p etroleum jelly to the “ n u m
b e re d ” shoe discs.
Piston asse m b ly (32 ) into th e front cylin der half (29)
(figure 40).
• R otate the axial plate (39) to p lace the high
point above cylinder bore No. 1.
• Hold the front thrust b earing p ack ag ain st the
axial plate hub.
• R e p e a t for pistons Nos. 2 and 3.
4. D isc h a rg e cross-over tu b e (26 ) (figu re 41 ).
• Face the flatten ed portion of th e tu b e to the
inside of the co m p ressor to allow for axial
plate cle ara n c e.
5. R e ar cylinder half (42) over th e shaft (39).
• R otate the shaft (39 ) to position the pistons in
a stair-step a rra n g em en t.
• S tart th e pistons into th e cylin der bores.
6. D isc h a rg e cross-over tu b e (26 ) into th e rear half of
the cylin der (42).
7. R e ar cylin der half (42) o ver th e locating dow el pins
(38).
• After aligning, tap th e rear half of the cylinder
with a m allet and w ood block.
• If necessary, clam p the cylin der in J 9 3 9 7 to
d raw the halves together.
