• P lace the clutch coil “ fac e d ow n ” and apply
the ad h esive in a circular bead around the
th ree coil locator protrusions.
2. Clutch coil (8) to th e front head (16) (figure 12).
• Align th e coil and housing assem b ly on the
c o m p r e s s o r fro n t h e a d (1 6 ) so th a t th e
electrical term inals line up the marks scribed
on the compressor.
• Align the coil locator projections on th e coil
housing with the holes in th e front head (16).
3. Coil and housing retainer ring (7) with J 6435.

• R e m o ve any excess ad h esive.
4. P ulley and b earing as se m b ly (5 and 6).
5. Clutch plate and hub asse m b ly (2).
MAJOR REPAIR TO
S ervice repair p ro cedures to th e com p ressor shaft seal
and pressure relief valve or d isassem bly of the internal
com pressor m ech an ism are co n sidered “ M a jo r” since the
refrigeration system m ust be purged of refrigerant before
proceeding.
If servicing or replacing th e internal cylin der and shaft
assem bly, m e as u re and re p la c e th e oil with n ew 5 2 5
viscosity refrigerant oil.
D isassem b le the co m p ressor in a clean work area. Use
clean tools. D isassem b ly p ro ced u res require proper se r
vice tools. Using in a d e q u ate e q u ip m e n t m ay d a m a g e the
compressor.
R e p lac em en t parts are p ackag ed and can be used
w ithout cleaning.
Piston shoe discs and shaft thrust races are “ n u m
b e re d .” To d eterm in e size and d im ension, refer to the
chart in this section.
SHAFT SEAL REPLACEMENT

1. Clutch plate and hub assem b ly(2).

Clean
• T h e inside of th e co m p re ss o r front head
around th e sh aft (39 ). P re ve n t dust and
dirt from en terin g th e com p ressor.
2. S leeve retainer (10).
3. Absorbent felt sleeve (11).
4. Shaft seat retaining ring (12) with J 5 4 0 3 (figure 13).
5. Shaft seat (13) (figure 14).
• E n g a g e J 23 12 8 into th e recessed portion of
th e s e a t by tu rn in g J 2 3 1 2 8 to th e rig ht
(clockwise).
• Lift th e seat (13) from th e com p ressor with a
rotary motion.
6. S haft seal (14) (figure 15).
• P lac e J 2 2 9 7 4 -A o ver th e end of th e shaft (38)
to p reven t cutting th e O -ring (13).
• Insert J 9392-01 over th e com p ressor shaft
(39).

• E n g a g e the tabs on th e seal (14) by twisting
the J 9392-01 dow nw ard to th e right.
• E n g a g e th e tab s and lift th e se al (14 ) out of th e
shaft (39 ) cavity. Hold J 2 2 9 7 4 in p la c e w hile
rem oving the seal.
7. O -ring (15) with J 9 5 5 3 -0 1 .
