ELECTRIC POWER
MANAGEMENT
This system monitors the
temperature and charge status
of the vehicle’s battery and
automatically adjusts the voltage
to enhance performance and
extend battery life.
In vehicles that are equipped with
a voltmeter gage or voltage
display, you may see the reading
fluctuate. This is normal.
This system monitors the electrical
load of the vehicle's battery and
automatically increases the
idle speed of the engine to
compensate for heavy electrical
load conditions.
Heavy electrical loads may occur
when several of the following
systems are on simultaneously:
• Headlight High/Low Beams
• Fog Lights
• Climate Controls/Rear Window
Defogger
• Heated Seats
• Engine Cooling Fan
Using the accessory power outlets
or pulling a trailer will also produce
heavy electrical loads.
If the system senses a problem, a
message will appear on the Driver
Information Center display.
The Charging System Light may
also appear on the instrument
cluster.
To help reduce electrical load, turn
off all unneeded accessories, such
as the radio and air conditioner.
See the following, earlier in this
section, for more information:
• Charging System Light
• Driver Information Center
