If vehicle fails to start
(a) Simple inspection
Prior to these simple inspections,
make sure that the vehicle is started
up as per the correct starting
procedure o
f ‗How to start the engine‘
in Chapter 3, and check whether fuel
is sufficient or not.
If engine cannot run or runs too
slowly
1. Check whether battery terminal is
tightened up and cleaned.
2. If battery terminal is normal, turn on
the rear interior lamp. If interior lamp
cannot be turned on or emits dim light
or battery runs out of power when
starter is started up, try a jump start.
Refer to instructions in ‗(c) Jump
start‘.
If interior lamp is turned on, but
engine cannot be started up, repair or
adjustment shall be performed for the
engine. Please contact BYD
authorized service station.
NOTICE
Do not start the vehicle by
pulling or pushing, otherwise
vehicle may be damaged or
collision may happen when
engine is started up.
Meanwhile, it will cause
overheating of three-way
catalytic converter and even a
fire disaster.
If starter starts engine at a normal
rotational speed but engine cannot
be started
1. Set the START button
as ‗ACC‘ or
‗OFF‘, then restart engine.
2. If engine cannot be started up, it
may be a result of oil spilling of engine
caused by repeatedly starting the
engine. For details, see ‗(b) Start
oil-
spilled engine‘.
3. If engine still cannot be started up,
adjust or repair it. Inform BYD
authorized service station of this
situation.
(b) Start oil-spilled engine
If engine cannot be started up, it
may be a result of oil spilling of
engine caused by repeatedly
starting the engine.
If this happens, press down START
button when stepping on accelerator
pedal to the full. Release START
button and accelerator pedal after
holding them at this position for 5
seconds. Then restart engine after
removing your foot from accelerator
pedal.
If 15 seconds passed but engine still
cannot be started, release START
button and try it again several minutes
later.
If engine still cannot be started, adjust
or repair it.
Inform BYD authorized service station
of this and ask for assistance.
NOTICE
Each starting shall not exceed 5
seconds. Otherwise, overheating of
starter and circuit system will be
caused.
