2.5 Creating a bootable CompactFlash card for B&R upgrade files
When used in connection with a B&R industrial PC, it is possible to upgrade (e.g. upgrade BIOS) from one of
the CompactFlash cards available from B&R. To do this, the CompactFlash card must be prepared accordingly.
This is done with the B&R Embedded OS Installer, which can be downloaded at no cost from the B&R website

2.5.1 Requirements
The following peripherals are required for creating a bootable CompactFlash card:

CompactFlash card
•
B&R Industrial PC
•
USB media drive
•
B&R Embedded OS Installer (V3.10 or higher)
2.5.2 Procedure
1. Insert the CompactFlash card in the CF slot on the industrial PC.
2. If the drive list is not refreshed automatically, the list can be updated using the command
Drives > Refresh
.
3. Select the desired CompactFlash card from the drive list.
4. Change to the
Action
tab and select
Install a B&R Update to a CompactFlash card
as the type of action.
5. Enter the path to the MS-DOS operating system files. If the files are part of a .zip archive, then click on the
button
From .zip file
. If the files are stored in a directory on the hard drive, then click on the button
From
folder
.
6. In the
B&R upgrade
text box, it is also possible to enter the path to the .zip file for the B&R upgrade disk
and select the file.
7. Click on the
Start action
button in the toolbar.

2.5.3 How to access MS-DOS
Information on creating an MS-DOS boot diskette can be found in section see "Creating an MS-DOS boot diskette
in Windows XP" on page 261. The files from the diskette are then copied to the hard drive.
