Applying the changes
To proceed with the changes displayed in the summary stage above, click
the
Finish
button. You will then be presented with a dialog box that
shows the progress as the VLANs are edited on each of the switches.
After 3Com Network Director has successfully completed the
modification of the VLANs on all the switches, you will be presented with
a dialog box from which you can launch an
Edit VLAN Summary
report
detailing the changes that were made.
3Com Network Director edits the VLANs on each switch one at a time. If
3Com Network Director fails to edit the VLANs on a switch for whatever
reason, 3Com Network Director will stop the configuration process and
will not attempt to edit the VLANs on any other switches. An error dialog
box will be displayed from which you can launch the
Edit VLANs
Summary
report detailing the error that occurred and those switches that
were successfully configured, if any.
If an error occurs during the configuration process, or if you cancel the
configuration process, then the VLAN information held in the map may
not correctly reflect the VLAN configuration of your network. If this
occurs then you should rediscover your network. You can speed up this
rediscovery process by limiting the rediscovery to only those subnets and
devices for which VLAN configuration was being performed.
Before attempting to modify the VLANs on the selected ports, 3Com
Network Director checks the current configuration of each switch to
make sure it matches the data held in the map hasn’t changed since your
network map was last updated, (e.g. has the VLAN configuration of the
switch changed, have the number of units in a stackable switch
changed). For the
Edit Port VLAN Membership
wizard to work correctly,
your network map has to be up to date. If the configuration of any of the
switches has changed, 3Com Network Director will not attempt to edit
the VLANs on any switch. The
Edit VLANs Summary
report will contain an
entry detailing the device that has a changed configuration. In this
situation you should re-discover your network to bring your map up to
date before launching the
Edit Port VLAN Membership
wizard again.
If VLANs were successfully modified on all switches, 3Com Network
Director will create an i
nfo
severity event in your event log. If there was
an error when modifying the VLANs, 3Com Network Director will create a
warning
severity event in the event log. The
