Function Key - a key of the keypad that performs a specific task, such as all call or disabling

signal circuits

hardware - the physical components of the Master Time Programmer and options

holiday - see alternate date

hourly correction - a correction signal sent to compatible secondary clocks every hour that

synchronizes their minute hands

impulse clock - a secondary clock which has no second hand and receives a voltage “impulse”

once each minute to increment the minute hand

LCD - liquid crystal display

LED - light emitting diode

line frequency - the frequency, measured in Hertz (Hz), of line voltage

line synchronous - a time base feature that allows the Master Time Programmer to synchronize

its time keeping to line frequency

LPT port - see parallel port

Main Menu - the menu that allows the user access to program most attributes of the Master

Time Programmer, such as time of day, date, and schedule used

main schedule - the normal schedule of events of a Master Time Programmer

manual advance - a feature of the Master Time Programmer that allows the user to manually

cause an hourly correction

menu - a list of items

menu item - one element of a list of elements that comprise a menu

minute impulse - a signal sent to an impulse clock once each minute that increments its minute

hand

MODEM - a device that converts computer data into signals that can be broadcast over tele-

phone lines, and vice versa

NIST-ACTS - National Institute of Standards and Technology - Automated Computer Time

Service - a service offered by NIST in which UTC is transmitted over phone lines via
MODEM
