OPERATION
When selecting the call time, the user should take the following precautions:
(1) AVOID USING A CALL TIME THAT IS BETWEEN 5 MINUTES BEFORE
AND 5 MINUTES AFTER EACH HOUR. This is usually the time
automatic hourly corrections of secondary clocks occur.
(2) AVOID USING A CALL TIME THAT IS BETWEEN 5:00 AM AND 6:00 AM,
AND BETWEEN 5:00 PM AND 6:00 PM. This is usually the time
automatic 12 hour corrections of secondary clocks occur.
(3) AVOID USING A CALL TIME THAT IS WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF A
PROGRAMMED EVENT.
5.) Set Time Zone: “Setting the time zone” is just another way of saying, “telling the
Master Time Programmer the difference between the time at your location and
UTC.” While each sovereign country determines its own offset from UTC, the
following is a good general explanation what time zones are and how they apply
to the Master Time Programmer.
In general, the Earth is divided into 24 time zones that are centered on
longitudes that are increments of 15° (i.e., 0°, 15°, 30°, etc.). The time at 0°
longitude is UTC. For each time zone crossed while traveling westward in
the Earth’s western hemisphere, one hour is subtracted from UTC. For
example, in the United States, Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours behind UTC
because it is roughly centered on 75° west longitude. For each time zone
crossed while traveling eastward in the Earth’s eastern hemisphere, one hour
is added to UTC. This means the range of times on Earth at any given
instant is UTC ± 12 hours.
NOTE:
The Set Time Zone parameter does not include any adjustments for
Daylight Savings Time. Menu item

of the Set Defaults Menu
compensates for Daylight Savings Time.
To set the time zone you wish the Master Time Programmer to use for time
keeping purposes, press the
‘5’
key (Set Time Zone) from the WWV Defaults
Menu. The display now prompts the operator to select the desired time zone.
One of the four standard time zones of the continental United States can be
selected. To select one of these time zones, press
‘1’
for Eastern Time,
‘2’
for Central Time,
‘3’
for Mountain Time, or
‘4’
for Pacific Time. Pressing the
‘1’

, or
‘4’
key will change the data in the brackets <>.
