12.2. Using a telephone line to transfer audio

There are two methods by which you can send audio back to your studio from a
remote location using a telephone line :

1.

You can connect an external modem to the RS232 port of the Courier and send
the recordings as data files. At the other end of the telephone line, you just need
another modem connected to your PC or Apple Mac. The modem at the
receiving end must be able to use the zmodem protocol and you’ll need some
software to receive the data file. Programs such as Hyper Access, Pro Comm, or
the free Windows 95/98 communications software Hyper Terminal are all
capable of receiving files over a serial link. You will need to read the
instructions for these software packages for information on receiving files and
protocols.

You can connect an external telephone hybrid to the input and output of the
Courier so that reports can be played down a normal telephone line. The Courier
can generate dialling tones for use with the telephone hybrid.

The Phonebook can be used for both methods so that frequently used numbers can
be dialled.

12.2.1. Using a modem to transfer data

Connect a modem to the RS232 port of the Courier. Supported modems include the
US Robotics range, the Pace range and the Psion Surfer. In practise, any modem
which supports the zmodem protocol should operate correctly.

Multiple data files can be transferred and there are a range of options in the
PhoneBook for dialling the last number, dialling a default number and entering
numbers not contained in the PhoneBook.

Please refer to Chapter 11 for information on the PhoneBook and how entries in it
are made and altered.

12.2.2. Transferring multiple files

To transfer multiple files you need to highlight each one in turn and then press the
SELECT button. This then leaves an icon next to the selected track to allow you to
know that the track has been selected.
