Time / Distance
"Time" and "Distance" switch over between the x-axis scaling in time units or distance
units.
The interpretation of time and distance depends on the measurement type. For reflec-
tion measurements, the time axis represents the propagation time of a signal from the
source to the DUT and back. For transmission measurement, it represents the propa-
gation time from the source through the device to the receiver.
The distance calculation is consistent with this picture:
●
For reflection measurements (S-parameters S
ii
or ratios with equal port indices) the
distance between the source and the DUT is half the propagation time multiplied by
the velocity of light in the vacuum times the velocity factor of the receiving port
(
Distance = 1/2 * <Time> * c
0
* <Velocity Factor>
). The factor 1/2 accounts for the
return trip from the DUT to the receiver.
●
For transmission measurements, the distance is calculated as the propagation time
times the velocity of light in the vacuum times the velocity factor of the receiving
port (
Distance = <Time> * c
0
* <Velocity Factor>
).
The velocity factor of the receiving port can be defined using CHANNEL – OFFSET
EMBED > "Offset" (see
"Permittivity / Velocity Factor"

5.9 Meas Softtool
The "Meas" softtool allows to select the quantities to be measured and displayed.
Access:
TRACE – MEAS hardkey
Background information
For a detailed description of all measurement results of the R&S
ZNB/ZNBT refer to
Chapter 4.3, "Measurement Results"
Efficient trace handling
To select a result and display it as a trace, you can simply drag and drop the corre-
sponding button into a diagram area. See also
Chapter 3.3.4, "Handling Diagrams,
Port activation on demand
If a requested result involves disabled ports, but could be calculated if those ports were
configured as single-ended ports with "logical port number = physical port number",
then the required logical port configuration is performed automatically.
