The relative information regarding the valid date ranges described here was selected to avoid daily
adjustment of the date limits.
5.6.1.3.1.6 GS1 DataBar code family
The GS1 DataBar code (previously known as RSS code) is a newer type of code symbology. It was
developed between 1995 and 2000. In contrast to the previous code types circulated, complete
data words are encrypted in GS1 DataBar codes and not only character for character in the bar
code symbologies. It is therefore no longer possible to decrypt the respective character contents
from the individual code words. This type of encryption is more efficient than the classic types of
linear bar code and leads to less space being required for the presentation of the code symbology.
As such, alongside the GTIN article number, as an expanded execution it can also incorporate the
additional application identifiers from the GS1 specification.
The following range of DataBar symbologies can be selected:

With all GS1-DataBar variants, the permissible module size must be selected in accordance with
the application-specific tables from the GS1 specification. As with the GS1-128, it is additionally
possible to check the date information.
5.6.1.3.1.6.1 GS1 DataBar / GS1 DataBar Stacked - Additional
test criteria
DataBar is always readable on an omnidirectional basis, aside from
the height-
reduced version (“Truncated”). In the settings, it is possible
to specify that the code should be displayed truncated in the test
report.
DataBar Stacked is used for very small articles. Because this code
type is also available as an omnidirectional variant, this can be
selected in the menu (large line height). .
