printer. This has not yet been considered in the current software, meaning that it is necessary to
utilise SST#6 in this case, in order to prevent devaluation in the evaluation. However, this option
will be added.
An EAN-13 code can be expanded with a 2 or 5-digit supplementary code. This "
Add On Code
” is
used in Germany for example to identify the various issues of newspapers and magazines. With
this it is possible to use the same article number for a product - in this case a publication - but still
uniquely identify each issue by means of the different add-on numbers.
Enter the instore code:
So-called
instore codes
, i.e. codes for internal application, are frequently used together with print-
on-demand settings. Such
instore codes
encode the article number of retail products together with
price or weight information. This procedure facilitates ringing up goods via the scanning cash
register, if these are to be charged for by weight or unit (meat, sliced meat products, cheese or
fruit).
The specifications for the
Instore Code
enable the optional use of a second check digit for the
variable data contents regarding the weight or price.
The selection “
Enter instore code
” is only possible with EAN-13 and UPC-A codes. With EAN-8,
there are instore codes that start with a 2, but these are always without a second check digit.
By definition, an instore code is only valid within a company. An instore code is uniquely identified
by
the first digit “2” in the code. This also applies to the UPC-A code. If a UPC-A Code is decoded
as an EAN code, the UPC-A
code also only has 13 characters. The 13th character is always “0” in
this case. In UPC-A symbology, an
instore code
is uniquely identified by the number sequence
“02” at the start.
If the instore function is activated, a check of the UPC-A code always takes place with the 2nd
character.
After choosing the instore selection menu, the following screen appears:
In this table, only the length is specified for the price and weight
field, depending on the required standard.
These settings are required because GS1 US
(formerly UC Council) stipulates a 4-digit add-on.
In contrast, GS1 Global specifies a 5-digit add-on.
The instore test function of the REA ScanCheck 3n is flexible and
permits the combination of all settings. The table lists all coding
options from "20" to "29".
The national organisations sometimes provide individual
specifications and recommendations for the use of the individual
instore code types. It is possible that some combinations are not
expedient and cannot be used.
Control the cursor position with arrow keys to position it at the
desired input field. If the <
OK Enter
> button is now pressed, th
e input changes from “not activated”
to “activated” with the “
” in the box or vice versa.
It is possi
ble to choose between “NO”, “UPC” or “EAN”.
If “NO” is selected, the second check digit is not checked.
If “EAN” is selected, 5-digit price or weight data is expected and checked.
If “UPC” is selected, 4-digit price or weight data is expected and checked.
