5.6.1.3.1.1 Additional test criteria
Some codes offer the option of integrating additional test criteria in
the test (e.g. for structure and size).
Such codes are marked with a "
+
” sign in front of the selection box.
This takes place by pressing the <
Setup
> button again.
The individual criteria are described in the following chapter.
If the code type does not enable selectable additional testing, i.e. a
“+” sign is in front of this, but the user still selects the <
Setup
> button
then the right screen message appears.
5.6.1.3.1.2 EAN-13 - Additional test criteria
In accordance with the
GS1 General Specifications
, the commercial codes are divided up into
various application areas.
In retail, EAN-13 serves to map the
GTIN
®
(
G
lobal
T
rade
I
tem
N
umber
®
). Further applications are
in the goods distribution centres and if applicable also within the store chains.
GS1 prefixes detection:
If this function is selected, a check takes place to determine whether
the code contains a prefix for GS1 Japan (450-459 & 490-499). If this
is the case, the code type is not identified as EAN-13, but rather as
JAN-13.
Changing the GS1 module size
:
In the GS1 General Specifications, the code sizes are specified
depending on the application. These are listed in so-called symbol
specification tables (SST). The symbol specification table 1
(
SST#1
) for example, describes the retail articles that are read in
general retail (POS), but not in general dispatch.
Module widths for EAN-13 of between 264µm and 660µm are
permitted here. This permitted code size is also the factory pre-
setting for the code size test.
Before testing it is first necessary to specify the application area in which the codes are used, and
to select the appropriate table.
The size can be changed with the menu item
<change GS1 module
size>
and
<OK Enter>
After this, the selection of the various tables is displayed. The
application specification at which the cursor is currently positioned is
described under the selection.
<OK Enter>
is used to select a menu item, after which it is necessary
to confirm this with the OK field, by choosing
<OK Enter>
.
According to the GS1 specification, in exceptional cases it is also
permissible to use module sizes for SST#1 from 0.249mm, if printing
is to take place directly on site in the store with a thermal or laser
