REA
VERIFIER
If the rechargeable batteries are heavily discharged and there is
no connection to the power supply unit, the REA ScanCheck 3n
may freeze after being switched on. The switch-on process is
interrupted and the device shows no reaction. In this case, it is
likely that the rechargeable batteries are empty or incorrectly
inserted.
During operation with rechargeable batteries (or primary batteries)
continuous monitoring of the operating voltage takes place.
Once the voltage reaches critical limit values, an electronically
monitored charging process will start or end.
If the operating voltage value drops further below a critical limit
value, the device issues the corresponding warning message,
closes the operating program and saves the settings.
In order to charge the rechargeable batteries, it is not usually necessary to remove them. It is
merely necessary to connect the PoE power supply unit with the network cable and its mains
connection to a socket. Additionally, a supplied network connection cable is connected with the
“Data & Power Out” socket on the power supply unit and the RJ45 socket in the REA ScanCheck
3n (see also chapter 3.2). Connecting the REA ScanCheck 3n to the mains power supply).
The charging time with empty rechargeable batteries is at least 4 hours. Whilst charging is taking
place, the green LED on the right beneath the display labelled “charge” lights up.
It goes out again once charging is complete and no further charging is taking place, or if the power
supply unit is not supplying power. In an emergency, operation with Mignon batteries (primary cells)
is also permissible.
If the PoE power supply unit is correctly connected, the rechargeable batteries are recharged
automatically and electronically monitored. Overcharging or overheating are monitored and
prevented by protective circuitry.
If the device is operated whilst charging, a complete discharge of the rechargeable batteries will
take longer than with a device that is switched off.
It is also possible to use 4 Mignon primary batteries in place of the 4 rechargeable batteries,
although this should only take place as an emergency solution. If operation with primary batteries
takes place, never connect the power supply unit as this poses a risk of explosion.
ATTENTION: REA Elektronik recommends that primary cells (Mignon batteries) only
be used in the REA ScanCheck 3n in an emergency. These must never be left in the
device when the power supply unit is connected! However, if the mains charging
device is inadvertently connected, there is a risk that the charging current may cause
damage to / destruction of the batteries (risk of explosion!) and therefore also the
device.
