• With a 7.1-channel su rr ound system, audio
signals that have unde r gone mat r ix
decoding pr ocessing th r ough su rr ound
back channel pr ocessing to which the U p
Mix function is added a r e out p ut f r om the
su rr ound back s p eake r s.
• Press RECEIVER, then press SB CH
repeatedly to cycle the surround back
channel options.
Each pr ess cycles th r ough the o p tions as
follows:

SB CH ON
–
Mat r ix decoding pr ocessing fo r
gene r ating the su rr ound back com p onent
f r om the su rr ound com p onent is tu r ned on.
•
SB CH AUTO
– Mat r ix decoding
pr ocessing fo r gene r ating the su rr ound
back com p onent f r om the su rr ound
com p onent is switched automatically.
Mat r ix decoding pr ocessing is only
p e r fo r med when su rr ound back channel
signals a r e detected in the in p ut signals.

SB CH OFF
– Mat r ix decoding pr ocessing
fo r gene r ating the su rr ound back
com p onent f r om the su rr ound com p onent
is tu r ned off.
Setting the Up Mix function
In a 7.1-channel su rr ound system with
su rr ound s p eake r s p laced di r ectly at the sides
of the listening p osition, the su rr ound sound
of 5.1-channel sou r ces is hea r d f r om the side.
The U p Mix function mixes the sound of the
su rr ound s p eake r s with the su rr ound back
s p eake r s so that the su rr ound sound is hea r d
f r om diagonally to the r ea r as it should be.

• Using the U p Mix function is effective
when the s p eake r s in the 7.1-channel
su rr ound system a r e set u p as
r ecommended in the exam p le on p age 23.
• De p ending on the p ositions of the
s p eake r s and the sound sou r ce, in some
cases it may not be p ossible to achieve
good r esults. In this case, set the setting to
OFF
.
