Making an audio or a video
recording
You can make an audio o r a video r eco r ding
f r om the built-in tune r , o r f r om an audio o r
video sou r ce connected to the r eceive r (such
as a CD p laye r o r TV).
Kee p in mind you can’t make a digital
r eco r ding f r om an analog sou r ce o r vice-ve r sa,
so make su r e the com p onents you a r e
r eco r ding to/f r om a r e hooked u p in the same
way (see Connecting u p on p age 11 fo r mo r e on
connections).
If you want to r eco r d a video sou r ce, you also
need to use the same ty p e of connection fo r the
sou r ce as fo r the r eco r de r . Fo r exam p le, you
can’t r eco r d a com p onent hooked u p to
com p osite video jacks with a r eco r de r hooked
u p to the com p onent video out p uts (see
p age 17 fo r mo r e on video connections).
1 Select the source you want to record.
Use the
MULTI CONTROL
buttons (o r
INPUT
SELECT
).
2 Select the input signal (if necessary).
P r ess the
RECEIVER
button then pr ess
SIGNAL SEL
to select the in p ut signal
co rr es p onding to the sou r ce com p onent (see
p age 40 fo r mo r e on this).
3 Prepare the source you want to record.
Tune to the r adio station, load the CD, video,
DVD etc.
4 Prepare the recorder.
Inse r t a blank ta p e, MD, video etc. into the
r eco r ding device and set the r eco r ding levels.
Refe r to the inst r uctions that came with the
r eco r de r if you a r e unsu r e how to do this. Most
video r eco r de r s set the audio r eco r ding level
automatically—check the com p onent’s
inst r uction manual if you’ r e unsu r e.
5 Start recording, then start playback of
the source component.

1 • The r eceive r ’s volume, balance, tone (bass, t r eble, loudness), and su rr ound effects have no effect on the r eco r ded signal.
• Some digital sou r ces a r e co p y- pr otected, and can only be r eco r ded in analog.
• Some video sou r ces a r e co p y- pr otected. These cannot be r eco r ded.
