Slewing ring bolts - initial servicing, annual service, 1000
hours service

At the contact surfaces between crane base, rotary connection and column subsidences may occur
and reduce the required pre-stressing of the slewing ring bolts. As a result the slewing ring bolts may
get loose or tear.

Therefore it is of particular importance to check all inside and outside slewing ring bolts in the
prescribed intervals.

Intervals

Initial servicing

After 50 hours of operation

inside (2) / outside (3)

Annual service

After every 1000 hours of operation / once a
year minimum

inside (2) / outside (3)

Only PALFINGER service partners are allowed to check and tighten slewing ring bolts.

If it is possible to tighten the slewing ring bolts by more than 30 degrees, they are considered loose.
Loose slewing ring bolts must no longer be used and have to be replaced.

If any loose slewing ring bolts are detected (by the operator / operating company) contact the nearest
service partner immediately. Continuing to work is not permitted.

Caution!

There is acute risk of fatal injury; loose slewing ring bolts or slewing
ring bolts with insufficient pre-tensioning may tear under load. Boom
and column may fall from the crane base.

Torque wrench

Tighten the slewing ring bolts to the specified torque using a calibrated torque wrench according to
ISO6789 (ac/-7%).

Required torque

M20

480 Nm

(do not oil the bolts)

M 24

900 Nm

If the check reveals one or several loose slewing ring bolts (>30°), contact the PALFINGER service.

PALFINGER slewing ring bolts may be turned in only when not oiled. All connecting parts must be
clean and free of grease.

Slewing ring bolts / nuts must not be glued in.

Caution!

If slewing ring bolts other than PALFINGER's are used you might not
achieve the required pre-tensioning with the specified torques.
Consequently, the slewing ring bolts may get loose and tear. This
creates an acute risk of fatal injury.

Only use original PALFINGER slewing ring bolts (special coating!).
